A clinical trial compares the effects of one treatment with another. It may involve patients with a particular disease or condition, healthy people, or both. Trials are designed differently depending on what is being researched.
Very often, the clinical trial takes place as part of the treatment and care that you receive at your GP surgery, at hospital or in other NHS services. e that you may be able to take part in. People can benefit from taking part in clinical research trials in different ways, including the chance to test a new treatment at an early stage and by supporting the development of new and more effective treatments, therapies or medicines.
Our Clinical Research Facility offers 11 clinic rooms, dedicated on-site laboratories, and modern office and storage space to support high-quality clinical research.
Our facilities are designed to provide a safe, calm and professional environment for patients, families, staff and research partners.
Behind the scenes, our spaces support a team of 45 staff members delivering research across a wide range of studies.
If you are interested in taking part, speak with your doctor or talk to one of our research nurses to see if there are any studies or trials you are eligible to join. It is up to you to decide whether or not you wish to get involved. If you decide not to participate, it will not affect your treatment in any way.
Patient and Public Engagement is about creating opportunities for people to learn about research, ask questions and connect with our teams.
